Express Your Home’s Personality with Patterned Tile
There are lots of things to love about patterned tile, but we think the sheer variety and design possibilities it offers might be what we love most. From bold jewel tones to soothing neutrals, small-scale floral prints to large geometric designs, and lace-look to splatter paint, our wide-ranging product collection includes the patterned tile that will bring your design vision to life.
Where to Use Patterned Tiles
Patterned tiles can be used on both floors and walls inside your home, and for some outdoor applications. Patterned floor tiles are frequently used in entryways, foyers and mudrooms, and are also popular choices for bathrooms and laundry rooms. Choosing decorative floor tile for a heavily trafficked space in your home allows these spaces to have all the function they need, without sacrificing style.
On walls, patterned tiles can serve many purposes. Using patterned tile for a backsplash in the kitchen or bathroom is always a stylish choice; for an even bolder look, use patterned tile to cover whole walls for a wallpaper-like effect.
Patterned tile is also a great way to create continuity between floors and walls throughout your home. For instance, you might use the same tile for the floor in your front entryway, and for the hearth in your living room. In a bathroom, you can extend a pattern from the floor to your tub surround, and up the walls of the room for a bold all-tile look.
Depending on your project, patterned tile can also be suitable for use in outdoor spaces, such as outdoor bar or cooking areas, or around an outdoor fireplace. (Always check with a tile pro about your specific project idea—and climate considerations—before using tile outside.)

Common Materials Used for Patterned Tiles
- Patterned Ceramic Tile: About half of our selection of patterned tile is ceramic. The majority of our patterned ceramic tiles are for use on walls only, but several are also suitable for both walls and floors
- Patterned Porcelain Tile: Our second-largest selection of patterned tile is made with porcelain. This includes a wide variety of tiles suitable for using on both walls and floors, as well as some that can be used for exterior projects.
- Patterned Cement Tile: In patterned cement—or encaustic—tiles, the pattern is not added to the surface of the tile, but rather is part of the tile itself. Different colors of cement are used to create the body of the tile, so the pattern is exceptionally durable. This durability makes them very popular for use on floors.
