]]>This contemporary layout features neat lines that draw the eye across the width of the wall or floor, making your room appear wider. The simple design can be created with any rectangle tile, including subway tile. Here, bands of Coco White matte and glossy tiles add a stylized touch to the bathroom wall; mixing finishes is an excellent way to elevate a simple layout.
Just like the guards at Buckingham Palace, these “soldier stacks” stand firm and tall. Installing tile vertically creates the illusion of height in your space. Vertically stacked subway tile will make your space feel contemporary, while rectangular large-format tile makes your space feel both taller and more expansive.
“Horizontal and vertical straight stacks are my favorite tile patterns for bathrooms because they present a clean and fresh look. It’s important to have a polished design in your bathroom.” –Kirsty Froelich, The Tile Shop Director of Design
Pro Tip: Combine vertical and horizontal stacks for a stunning, custom design.
There’s a reason why 1/2 offset is one of the most traditional layouts. The simple enhancement of offsetting stacked tiles by 50% is visually appealing and helps hide any imperfections in the installation. Use subway or rectangle tile to achieve a classic brick-lay look, or square tile for a chic offset design.
The stair-step effect in this pattern is created by offsetting each tile by 1/3 of its length. We recommend using a 1/3 offset when designing with tile that is 8 x 16 in. or larger. Shop large-format tile to achieve this stylish design on your floors or walls.
Install large or small rectangle tile at a 45-degree angle to create a dynamic herringbone pattern. You can enhance the vertical and horizontal zigzag movements by incorporating different colors, finishes or a contrasting grout color.
A double herringbone is created by connecting two rectangle tiles. This layout is less common because it can be difficult to perfect. However, when executed correctly, as seen in this contemporary bathroom designed by Friedman General Contracting, the results are stunning!
Pro Tip: Don’t forget to consider your grout color! A contrasting grout will accentuate your layout, while a grout that matches the tile results in a subtler design.
Like herringbone, a chevron pattern creates a dynamic, zigzag design. However, this layout is created by connecting the angled ends of specially cut tiles, rather than installing rectangular tiles diagonally. The result is a fashionable V-shaped silhouette.
A tried-and-true design, this layout is created by simply arranging square tiles in a grid formation. It is ideal for patterned tile, especially when the pattern is enhanced by grouping four squares together, as it is on the Kelli Fontana Inlay Proper Florence Lace tile shown here.
Similar to the grid pattern, this layout consists of rows of square tile. However, as it is installed at a 45-degree angle, this pattern makes your floor or wall appear wider. We love how Timber Trails used this layout to add a contemporary twist to the classic checkerboard design. You can achieve a similar look using diamond-shaped tile.
Named after the French Palace of Versailles, this classically elegant pattern consists of rectangles and squares of varying sizes. While the Versailles pattern is commonly used for floor designs, it’s also striking on walls.
The six-sided, honeycomb-shaped hex is a surprisingly versatile tile shape. Available in small mosaic formats and larger field tiles (up to 13 x 14 in.), all hexagon tile adheres to the same layout. However, the uniformity of similarly-sized hex tiles allows for custom patterns. Here, Beginning in the Middle created an elevated polka dot effect by adding Back Marquina hex to their Firenze Carrara hex design.

]]>One way to achieve transitional design is to use a combination of elements from different design eras. This charming kitchen designed by Timber Trails features a balanced mix of styles. The Hampton Carrara Amalfi marble tile combines a classic material in a traditional format (subway tile first gained popularity in the Victorian age), while the sleek chrome lines of the range are decidedly contemporary. This blend of eras and styles is carried through to the chrome light fixtures with their more traditional shape and the combination of chrome hardware and white cabinets. Though this space melds materials and styles, the neutral monochromatic color scheme maintains the harmonious cohesion representative of transitional design.
Another way to blur the line between traditional and contemporary is to use classic materials in more up-to-date shapes. This bathroom features the Elia Polished by Alison Victoria tile, a classic Greek Volakas marble in a fashionable leaf shape. This theme of classic-made-modern is carried through with the contemporary silhouette of the gold light fixtures and the chic, unadorned double mirrors.
What sets transitional design apart from its traditional roots is the embrace of “quirky” and unexpected elements–typically more characteristic of contemporary design. This stylish bathroom demonstrates how to add surprising, yet subtle, details. The Coco Canvas Matte tile installed in a horizontal straight stack throughout is interrupted by a band of vertically laid Coco Canvas Glossy tile. While the design still maintains its warm neutral tone, the glossy finish will catch the natural light, adding brightness to this design. The mirror with its minimal gold trim and rounded corners is another contemporary design element, while the layered trim on the shower niche is traditional, with a band of a gold metal adding a modern element. The effect is a visually complex, yet it achieves a soothing serenity.
Pattern, color and shape are some of the most basic design elements, and mixing styles is often a process of intentionally pairing these elements so that they are united by a single commonality. Take this transitional kitchen backsplash: the Vintage Nero patterned tile features an ornate traditional design while the Picket Florencia Super Bianco tile with its angular shape is decidedly contemporary. The sage green range hood and cabinetry are modern touches, but traditional details are sprinkled in through the Firenze Carrara marble Somerset (used as a border to the patterned tile) and countertop with its Barnes edging. In keeping to three basic design elements and colors, this space maintains a harmonious pairing of classical and current styles.
Layering is a hallmark of traditional design that, when carried over to your transitional space, will add an air of refinement. The layered picture frame in this elegant bathroom features both Arctic White marble and Claros Silver travertine, giving this space great visual texture. This stone mixture is carried throughout the space with marble wall tile and travertine floor tile. The traditional tile design is paired with contemporary elements–the chic wall sconce and simple brass shower fixtures–for a highly sophisticated space.
With its origin in Victorian design, white subway tile is as timeless as it is versatile–perfect for a style that marries classic and contemporary. This chic kitchen designed by Timber Trails features our best-selling subway tile, Retro Lino, in a stylish backsplash. The cabinets in this space are the more traditional closed cabinetry in a demure navy shade, while the brass hardware are a simple contemporary style.

]]>Zellige tiles are cut, painted and glazed by hand, ensuring that each piece is truly unique. This bathroom designed by @forgegrove features the Zellige White Gloss tile paired with brass hardware for authentic elegance. The tiles’ slight variations in size and coloration create an uneven surface, adding lots of visual texture within the neutral color palette.
Arrange your tile in a vertical straight stack for crisp, orderly lines that that enhance the fresh, clean aesthetic of traditional white subway tile. This shower designed by Restor Homes shows how this simple layout can make an impact. The stacked tiles paired with the brass shower gives this space a cool, contemporary feel.
A white tile floor is a nice base for any room, and we love how the Hampton Carrara Hex tile used in this chic bathroom designed by Timber Trails coordinates with the cool neutrals in this stylish space. The serene wall color brings out the soft grey veining in the marble tile, while the hexagon shape adds a sense of movement and sophistication.
A glossy finish creates a reflective surface, which, when paired with a matte finish, creates a stunningly subtle design. The alternating stripes of the Coco White Glossy and Matte tiles shown here use natural light to add brightness and interest to this contemporary bathroom.
One of our favorite trends in tile is also one of the biggest literally and figuratively. Large-format tiles require fewer grout joints, giving your space an expansive, cohesive look. The bold grey veining on the oversized Elite Renoir tile used in this bathroom designed by Sara Matos Interior Designs adds dramatic movement along a sleek bathroom wall and tub surround.
A twist on traditional subway, picket tile is popular for its unique shape and off-center layout. This bathroom pairs the Lanse Matte White Picket tile with a sleek sink and contemporary accessories for an ultra-modern look.
The grout you choose can drastically alter your tile design. A contrasting black or dark grey grout will create drama, while white grout lines recede so tiles appear to blend together. For subtle contrast, choose a light neutral shade like the beige grout used in this bathroom. The soft coloring brings out the warm tones in the sink and countertop and contrasts nicely with the black hardware for a chic, contemporary look.
The gentle curves of the Wave White tile soften this modern design for a calming effect. The wave pattern is perfect for a “coastal chic” designs. Pair this tile with blue or sand-colored paint and accessories for an elevated beachy vibe.
A honed finish adds softness and depth to marble without the reflective shine of polished stone. Here San Dona honed marble is used throughout the space for an elegant, cohesive look, but you could easily incorporate satin-finish or polished pieces to highlight certain areas or bring brightness to your design.
Good news! You can still incorporate pattern into your white bathroom. The subtle white-on-taupe motif of the Annie Selke Flora Coconut Milk tile on the upper walls of this transitional shower lends a botanical flair to this otherwise simple tile design. The effect is a rich space that still maintains a soft, neutral color scheme.
Available in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and patterns, mosaic tile usually incorporates smaller pieces–perfect for creating traction on a bathroom or shower floor or for decorating a wall like this modern bathroom. The small, elongated bar shapes of the KitKat White mosaic tile add texture to this relaxing and charming space.
Authentic and elegant, marble is at the forefront of one of our favorite trends–quiet luxury. This bathroom features Volkas marble throughout for a lush space that’s full of natural movement and tones of grey and beige. If your aesthetic leans towards elevated, subtle splendor, read more on how to create a quiet luxury space with tile.

]]>The post A Q & A with Celebrity Designer Nikki Chu appeared first on The Tile Shop Blog.
]]>As a designer, I’m always noticing products that are missing from the market. That’s been my success with my other lines; I want to design the items–oversized patterns on wallpaper and pillows, and neutral area rugs–that I’m not finding as I shop. So, when The Tile Shop came to me and said ‘we’d love to do a collaboration,’ it was a natural choice because tile is essentially a wallpaper that can be used where wallpaper isn’t ideal, like wet spaces. I like that versatility–I can bring my designs to spaces where you wouldn’t traditionally find something so bold and graphic.
Both the Zulu and Tangier are derived from other products in my home collections. The Zulu tile is based on a top-selling wallpaper I designed for York Wallcoverings. The Tangier tile originated from a rug that’s been in my line for 10 years. My clientele love this pattern, so I’m excited to offer it in tile form.
The impetus for my designs comes from textiles–prints and patterns I found in India, Indonesia and Africa. I take that inspiration and I create my signature bold, graphic and simple hand-drawn designs.
My personal design style is very monochromatic. I like using a neutral color palette and infusing it with global patterns and textures. I gravitate towards neutrals for the main elements then add color in ways that aren’t so permanent, creating this subtle and soft palette. That’s why Zulu and Tangier really work. They’re giving that neutral color palette with that great pattern, which can be challenging to find on the market.
When I’m working with a client who is unsure about what color to use, I advise them to to look in their closet–the clothes you buy will often reveal the colors you gravitate towards. When designing a space that has three bathrooms–a powder bath and two main baths–I say to the client, ‘if you want to have fun, let’s have fun in the powder bath.’ That way you don’t have to commit to seeing it every day, and it will be a nice surprise for your guests. Take risks there, and play it safe and neutral in the main bathrooms. So if there’s a tile that stands out to you but you’re having second thoughts because it may be too bold or too colorful, a powder bath is the perfect place to experiment.
The advice I give is to pick a main tile to pull your colors from. So, if you’re using a large-format marble with a lot of movement and a few different colors, you start by breaking those colors out, and pairing them with a subway or penny tile in a coordinating color. I usually stick to three tiles–a main tile, a backsplash tile and a mosaic floor tile.
I love designing kitchens! When people think of kitchens, they usually imagine the traditional look of upper and lower cabinets and maybe an island, but I’m all for the design trend that reduces the amount of cabinetry to create a beautiful space that can be used for entertaining, cooking and working.
I’m renovating my kitchen in Florida and I’m removing half the cabinetry and installing glass shelves with a brass bar back, but I’m still creating storage space. It’s an alternative that allows for a lot of flexibility–you can tile from the counter all the way to the ceiling for a luxe look.
In phase two of my collection, I plan to introduce a carefully veined marble-look tile that coordinates with the other colorways in the collection. I’d also like to design a mosaic that can be used for smaller budget bathroom renovations.
My favorite part of the process is working with The Tile Shop team! They’re fun, clever and so knowledgeable! I love the social team, the photography team. I’ve been blown away with the assets they created. I spent a year and a half developing this product, and it’s been super exciting to see how the marketing team put it all together.
And of course, I love working with Kirsty [Froelich, Director of Design] because she’s so knowledgeable about the company and the customer. She was pivotal in ensuring we had a product that fit with my and The Tile Shop’s brands.

]]>The post Tile for Every Style: Modern Farmhouse appeared first on The Tile Shop Blog.
]]>From realistic wood-look tile to charming patterns–read on for nine ideas on how to use tile to achieve an authentic modern farmhouse aesthetic in every area of your home.
Organic materials and textures are essential to the modern farmhouse style, but some areas–like bathrooms and mudrooms–might not be suitable for hardwood floors. A wood-look porcelain tile or luxury vinyl tile combines the rustic look of hardwood with superior durability. Waterproof and stain-resistant, these materials will keep your bathroom, mudroom or deck looking nice through the years and won’t trap bacteria, like real wood can.
This living room with its white walls and wood accents is classic modern farmhouse style, but the real showstopper is the charming fireplace. The Look Avio tile is expertly incorporated for a pop of color that complements rather than detracts from the minimalist appeal of the space. With its emphasis on simplicity, you’ll want to use color sparingly, but the rich, natural blue-green tones in this tile perfectly enhance this living space.
Texture is a great way to add interest to a style that’s primarily centered around neutral colors and natural accents. Handmade and handmade-look tiles are characterized by variations in surface and color, giving them a perfectly imperfect appearance that will add lots of visual texture to your space. This charming kitchen uses handmade-look tile for both the backsplash and on the kitchen island. Notice how the light plays off the surfaces of the tile, illuminating the variation between each piece.
If you’re under the impression that pattern has no place in modern farmhouse decor, think again. Many patterned tiles fit this aesthetic. The Star floor tile used in this chic mudroom complements the blonde wood tones and black baskets. The pattern invokes classic Americana while still being neutral enough to incorporate into the modern farmhouse style.
Elevate your modern farmhouse style with a simple, yet lush marble mosaic, like the Sampson Mosaic tile shown here. The open shelves along the backsplash are functional and chic. The beige and whites in the mosaic tile match the whites of the counters and the gold hardware, while the basketweave motif invokes a classic homespun look that is enhanced by the elegance of the marble.
Although it’s characterized by bright whites and soft neutrals, modern farmhouse style has room for more moody colors. Deep grey, green and blue can all be used to add a dramatic flair to your design. The Silver Hex floor tile is the perfect choice for this elegant powder room designed by I SPY DIY. The shape of the mirror is repeated in the floor tiles and the grey is complemented by the purplish-grey of the wainscoting and trim. With the wooden accents and basin sink, this room exudes rustic charm.
One of the hallmarks of modern farmhouse design is embracing the architectural details of your home, but if you don’t live in an 1800s farmhouse, you can use tile to create truly rustic-looking stone features. The Claros Silver, a tumbled travertine subway tile, shown here looks like it’s authentic to the house. The tumbled finish gives this stone a distressed look that adds character to this bright and inviting bathroom designed by Coco & Jack.
Nothing embodies a summer day on the farm like crisp, clean linens hung out to dry. Bring that fresh linen feel into your home with the crisp-white lace patterned Morris & Co. Pure Net Linen tile. This ornate tile was inspired by 1800th-century wallpaper designs and is the perfect way to add a twist to your modern farmhouse style.
Sleek and versatile, white subway tile lends itself to a myriad of styles, making it a perfect choice if you feel you might want a room refresh before you’re ready to reno your entire space. The Royal Satin White marble subway tile backsplash embodies the organic texture and authentic materials that are a trademark of modern farmhouse style. The off-white cabinets and vintage picture frame complete the aesthetic. We can imagine sitting down for a good meal and a good chat in this homey kitchen!

]]>As classy as it is cheery, a checkerboard pattern will add some fun and whimsy to your space. And this versatile pattern needn’t be relegated to black-and-white floors. Any square-shaped tile can make a checkerboard, so you can mix colors and patterns to create a winning design. You can even stay neutral like Racheal Jackson of Banyan Bridges did for this grey and white checkerboard backsplash. We love how the handmade look tile adds texture to this kitchen wall, and how she used color to create a dopamine-inducing tableau.
A lot of colors can easily become overwhelming. To keep your room from becoming too busy, try sticking to two to three analogous colors (colors that are close to each other on the color wheel). That’s what Zig and Co. did in this bright and fun entryway. A lot is happening in this room, but there are only three colors–blue, green and yellow–which helps keep the room looking cohesive.
You don’t need to saturate an entire room to showcase your favorite color. A somerset or pencil trim will add a pop of color that can tie into other elements in the room or just provide a point of interest in an otherwise neutral space. This laundry room, designed by At Home With Ashley, uses a single line of pink pencil trim to add color to the marble subway tile design. While Ashley also uses a pink floral wallpaper in this space, a white or neutral colored wall would match the tile just as well.
A black-and-white tile complements virtually any color palette–a great choice if you’re considering dipping your toe into dopamine decor. This vibrant room, designed by Timber Trails, pairs the Firenze Carrara Polished Wheaton with Black marble tile with a hot pink walls. The color saturation is excellent but can be easily altered with a new coat of paint.
Shape is another way to bring joy to a space. This Art Deco-inspired bathroom, designed by Bari J. Ackerman, uses tile to create a glamorous backsplash. The tiled arches mimic the rounded shapes of the mirrors and light fixtures, while the individual hexagon tiles add to the vintage allure of this charming room. You can use tile to create shapes, or choose from a uniquely shaped tile for an unexpected look that will brighten your mood.
A bold pattern is a great way to infuse your space with fun and cheer. If you’re worried about overwhelming the room, use a neutral or solid color on the other surfaces. The Laura Ashley Sunflower Charcoal with Cloud Blue patterned floor tile shown here, pairs well with the Laura Ashley White Beveled wall tile for a space that is bright and fanciful, while still being tasteful. Explore our wide assortment of patterned tile to discover a design that fills you with happiness.
Even the most charming, joy-filled room can use a place to rest your eye. A neutral tile, whether on the floor or the wall can provide some respite in a busy room. The Baltimore Beige Wood Look tile floor in this room designed by At Home With Ashley, adds to the charm of the pretty nature-inspired wallpaper, without distracting. Wood-look tile and luxury vinyl tile are perfect for adding realistic charm to your space while allowing for more creativity throughout the room.
Wondering where to start on your new dopamine decor space? Try making a moodboard! Think of the objects, colors and accessories that give you the most happiness and energy. A dated jack-and-jill bathroom found new life as this fun and charming kids’ bathroom designed by Mackenzie from the popular Craven Haven blog. The simple black-and-white color scheme in the tile allows for more colorful accessories like the green vanity and red stools. The geometric pattern on the Cali Black and White floor tile is reminiscent of Southwestern patterns, which ties into the antler wall hanging and adds to the adventurous boyhood aesthetic. Remove the stools and replace the whimsical accessories with something a little more mature, and this is a room that would be just as suitable for teenagers as for little boys.
The mix of soft whites and creams creates a sense of stylish serenity in this beautiful bathroom designed by renowned designer, Nikki Chu. The Argile Matte handmade-look subway tile adds beautiful visual texture to the upper walls with its uneven surface and shade variation, while the Livingstone Melange marble-look tile on the lower wall and floor creates stunning movement through beige and grey veining. The effect is a gorgeous, stately bathroom that embodies quiet luxury–a style towards understated refinement that gained popularity in 2023 and shows no sign of dissipating as we go into 2024. To achieve this aesthetic in your space, shop our assortment of marble-look and handmade-look tiles.
Blue was the color of the year for bathrooms (check out this post for 12 of Our Best Blue Bathrooms), and this bathroom designed by Jenni Yolo from the popular I SPY DIY blog made a big impression this year. The jewel-toned sapphire-blue handmade-look tile creates a vibrant, yet relaxing space. We love how she paired the Marrakesh Blue and Off White tile to create a checkerboard moment on the shower wall, adding just a touch of whimsy to this beautiful bathroom.
By replacing dark cupboards with open shelving and a bright Calacata Evora marble backsplash, Angelia Guthrie turned her dated condo kitchen into a chic and modern culinary space. We love how the large-format tile creates a slab look (the appearance of one solid piece of stone), for an expansive and open space. Shop our assortment of large-format tiles to achieve this look in your space.
Designer Nikki Chu took this kitchen from blah to brilliant. By adding some modern hardware, replacing the cupboards with shelves and hanging a statement piece pendant light, this kitchen is as chic as it is inviting. What we love most, though is the marble chevron wall tile. The natural color variation of the Meram Blanc Carrara with its grey and beige veining adds to the movement of the chevron shape, creating beautiful organic texture that perfectly complements the woven lamp shade and wooden shelves. Shop our full assortment of chevron tile to achieve this look in your home.
This darling kids’ bathroom, designed by Faust Design Build, is a celebration of color and shape. In one of the most dramatic transformations of the year, I SPY DIY took this dull, utilitarian loft bathroom and re-envisioned it as a luxurious spa-like oasis complete with a soaking tub and wet room. The handmade-look Riad Grey tile creates an artisanal aesthetic of the room with their natural variations in color and surface texture, while the Royal White Hex marble floor tiles create traction and adds to the opulence of the room. By keeping the color palette in white and grey, Jenni Yolo of I SPY DIY was able to create a beautiful tableau on which the gold fixtures and pops of red accents really shine.

]]>Keep scrolling for a closer look at the inspiring spaces in this elegantly chic home!
The fireplace is the focal point of this bright and open living room. The Noir Honed limestone tile with its subtle silver veining creates a stunning harth with lots of visual texture. The dark fireplace against the white wall creates a solid base, which is balanced by the large abstract painting above.
In a house dubbed Chef’s Delight, you know the kitchen is going to be the star. Of course, the delight of this house is that it boasts not one but two kitchens with gorgeous tile choices in both. The primary kitchen features the Antique Mirror Bevel Glass tile above the stove. This reflective tile adds depth and shine to the room and complements the linear forms of the hood.
This second kitchen, or scullery kitchen, features more brilliant design choices. The Noir Honed tile (which we saw earlier on the fireplace) is paired with the Silver Mist honed limestone tile for a sophisticated checkerboard pattern. As Julie explained in the video, the linear veining on this tile creates a pattern within a pattern, but the Silver Mist tile is installed in alternating diagonals to maintain a sense of order and flow.
The Brick x Brick by Alison Victoria Powder blends blue and grey tones for an elegant backsplash that complements both the dark grey walls and grey and black floor tiles. Though the obvious choice for this backsplash might have been to use the same limestone tile as the floor, we’re glad Julie took a risk on this unexpected tile choice. The blue-grey elongated subway tile creates a beautiful transition between the white cabinets and granite countertops.
This gorgeous bar area is perfect for entertaining. The Look Avio handmade-look tile features variations in its blue-green coloring for a natural sense of movement. While handmade tiles often feature uneven edges, these handmade-look tiles have more uniformity, allowing for the neat straight lines accentuated by the white grout. The result is a highly designed look that creates order without being overly homogeneous.
Nothing is more luxurious than marble, and this primary bathroom uses the Firenze Carrara to optimal effect, creating a clean, classic space. The herringbone pattern adds interest in the floor while maintaining the elegance of the room and the marble’s grey veining pairs nicely with the wooden cabinets and intricate, antique rug.
The Firenze Carrara tile extends to the shower walls, creating a lush, luxurious and rejuvenating space.
Don’t you long to linger between loads in this lovely and inviting laundry room? The floral motif of the Elaizig Hex tile adds sophisticated whimsy to this room. We love how the bee prints above the sink tie in both thematically and aesthetically with the floral-inspired patterned tile.
The custom tile design created with the Black and White Quarter Round tile is an unexpected moment that adds character to this charming Jack and Jill bathroom. The simple color palette gives this room depth while allowing the floor tile to claim the focal point of the space.
The Imperial Black Matte Rhombus tile used in this charming kids’ bathroom proves that you can have fun in black and white. The shape is simple, yet playful–perfect for children–but can easily age as kids grow. With the right accessories, this room is suitable for young kids all the way up to teenagers and young adults.
That concludes our tour of the elegantly chic Chef’s Delight. We hope you loved Julie’s design choices as much as we did! ]]>Perfectly imperfect handmade and handmade-look tiles were the top trend for kitchens in 2023, but we also saw a lot of natural stone, mosaics and sleek subway tile. If these stunning culinary spaces inspire you to add a remodel to your new year’s to-do’s be sure to check out our full assortment of kitchen tile.
This year saw a penchant for the perfectly imperfect artisanal charm of handmade-look tile. Providing a little more predictability than authentic handmade tile, the natural shade variation in the Splendours Grey subway tile creates beautiful visual texture on this stunning modern backsplash designed by Chateau Kitchens. We love how the double herringbone pattern adds an unexpected sense of movement to the space.
Continuing on the handmade trend is this charming and chic kitchen by Fox Homes. Each Moroccan-made Zellige tile is individually crafted and glazed by hand, giving this tile a truly unique appearance. The subtle variation in glaze and surface texture of this simple square tile creates a modern look with distinct character.
This open kitchen in the middle of an urban loft uses large-format marble tile to create a stylish slab look. Fewer grout lines create cohesion between tiles, making the wall look even more expansive than it is. The Calacata Evora Honed tile features subtle grey and honey gold veining for a luxurious, fluid look. Explore our full selection of large-format tile to achieve a slab look in your kitchen.
Classically chic subway tile is a trend that’s here to stay, and the brick-lay patterned backsplash, featured in six of the top-ten kitchens, is a definite favorite. The Brick x Brick by Alison Victoria is a porcelain tile with the appearance of an elevated brick. This elongated subway tile makes this backsplash feel modern and designed while the variation in surface tones creates extra interest. If you love this stylish and modern look, check out our full assortment of subway tile.
This cozy kitchen, designed by Jenni Yolo from the popular I SPY DIY blog, features two of this year’s favorite kitchen trends: handmade-look tile and brick-lay subway tile. The unique character of the Annie Selke Artisanal White subway tile adds to the rustic-chic aesthetic of this kitchen. The mason jar hanging light and antique steel faucet complement the tile, and the old-fashioned cutting board and landscape painting complete the modern farmhouse look.
This gorgeous tile backsplash is the epitome of elegance. The walls are graced by Firenze Carrara Essex marble subway tile and trim from the collection is used to create a frame around the Havana with White Nacre stone mosaic, creating a lovely focal point above the sink. View our wide selection of mosaic tile for ideas on how you can create your own show-stopping kitchen moment.
The tumbled finish on the Meram Blanc Carrara marble tile creates a roughness that, combined with the soft colors, gives this space a warm and inviting feel. We love how the dark wood shelves contrast the white marble, adding to the space’s chic, organic feel. The elevated materials definitely fits into Our Home Colonial’s charming antique aesthetic.
Sleek black limestone tile and clean white cabinets create high-contrast drama in this ultra-chic kitchen designed by Timber Trails. The silver veins running through the jet-black Noir Limestone Amalfi create subtle shifts in tone and add to the sophisticated look of this tile. Shop our full assortment of black tile to create your own black-and-white kitchen.
Using one of our most popular subway tiles, the Retro Lino handmade-look tile really shines on this modern backsplash designed by Haus of Rowe Interiors. The white-on-white with pale wood accents creates a clean and crisp tableau ready for all their baking and cooking ventures. If you love this bright and sleek look, shop our full assortment of white tile.
And now we come to your number one most liked, shared and favorited kitchen of 2023–the Timber Trails’ stunning marble mosaic kitchen. The beautiful basketweave pattern of the Sampson Mosaic tile has a soft, earthy feel, creating an elevated farmhouse look to this lovely kitchen.
