Sitting among a glamorous gathering of pastel pink homes in the illustrious Marrakesh Country Club community of Palm Springs, California, is a particularly grand residence. The second mid-century modern house owned by Annie Selke, acclaimed designer and founder of The Annie Selke Companies, the home is an icon within the neighborhood designed by Hollywood Regency architect John Elgin Woolfe. Drenched in sunlight with playful hues dancing from room to room, this chic oasis showcases Selke’s iconic color-forward style while paying homage to the serenity of the surrounding desert vista.

Selke recently completed a major renovation on the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home, and we couldn’t be more excited to share some of the gorgeous interior and exterior spaces–many of which feature tile from our exclusive Annie Selke collection–with you!

Front Entrance

The grand entrance makes a statement with a posh tiled fountain and brushed marble flooring that continues throughout the house. The luxurious Arctic White stone displays soft ivory coloring that effortlessly pulls out the warm, inviting tones in the exterior’s eye-catching pink walls.

Featuring: Arctic White Brushed. Design by Annie Selke.

A burst of stunning turquoise hues brings a fresh and invigorating feel to the space through our Glass Tropical Harbor Blend Hex mosaic. The hexagon-shaped glass tiles bounce light from surface to surface, drawing the eye into the crystal clear water.

Kitchen

Suited perfectly for Selke’s love of entertaining, the home’s contemporary kitchen is open concept with natural light boasting from floor-to-ceiling windows. Arctic White marble flooring continues from the front entrance, offering the perfect neutral backdrop for the kitchen’s true star–a dazzling tiled backsplash–to shine.

Selke’s striking backsplash features the Goldleaf Speckle from her exclusive Tile Shop collection. The ceramic tile commands attention with mirrored metallic gold splatters overlaying a cowhide-look textured surface. The gold accents glitter throughout the kitchen, reflecting the space’s sunny natural light for a true show-stopping moment.

The continued use of the Goldleaf Speckle in the backing of the open cabinetry and bookcase creates total cohesion within the space.

Primary Bathroom

The home’s primary bathroom offers a calming neutral moment within the house with various textures and materials in soft creams, ivories and greys. Its focal point, Selke’s concrete soaking tub, is highlighted by an eye-catching sculptural tile that breathes depth and dimension into the space.

Learn all about how to make a statement with sculptural and 3D tile here.

Transitioning from the bathroom’s floor to its shower walls, the Arctic White marble creates a lavish yet tranquil ambiance.

Featuring: Arctic White Brushed. Design by Annie Selke.

Further elevating the serenity of this stylish shower is the White, Grey & Black Pebbles Small mosaic flooring. Featuring smooth, rounded river pebbles, the mosaic offers a dose of rich, natural color while gently massaging the feet for a relaxing spa-like experience.

Guest Bedroom + Bathroom

Selke’s guest bedroom takes on a fresh, earthy theme of greens and blues, showcased in the whimsical leaf-printed textiles.

Featuring: Arctic White Brushed. Design by Annie Selke.

The Arctic White marble‘s soft veining brings the perfect amount of subtle movement to the space while adding hints of warmth to the cool-toned decor.

Continuing the refreshing, earthy theme into the guest bathroom, Selke went with the soft blue Artisanal Sky subway tile from our Annie Selke collection. This charming ceramic tile features gentle waves of texture and a unique crackle finish, beautifully mimicking the look of an authentic handmade tile.

The use of the coordinating Annie Selke Artisanal Sky Pencil to line the shower’s niche instantly gives the space a more custom and cohesive feel.

Office Bathroom

Selke’s office bathroom offers a slightly more sophisticated appearance with the intriguing textile-inspired Annie Selke Argento Cream tile. Through the layering of different colored glazes on top of one another, this ceramic wall tile mimics the appearance of a luxe metal-infused fabric. Combined with a creamy beige hue and a light-reflecting shimmer, this tile brings an extra glam feel to the shower.

Featuring: Annie Selke Argento Cream. Design by Annie Selke.

Matching the primary bathroom, this shower continues the use of the spa-like White, Grey & Black Pebbles Small tile for a floor that anchors the space and balances the textured walls.

Back Patio

Last, but certainly not least, is the home’s swanky back patio, adorned with charming old-Hollywood style furniture and one final appearance of the brushed Arctic White marble. Ideal for outdoor use in the Palm Springs’ dry climate, the ivory stone offers the ultimate setting for Selke and her company to bask in the warm desert sun.

Featuring: Arctic White Brushed. Design by Annie Selke.

And with that, we’re concluding our tour of Annie Selke‘s breathtaking desert oasis. If you’re loving her style as much as we are, explore our exclusive Annie Selke tile collection to bring similar beauty into your own home.

Get ready to take a step inside Varsity Blues – one of the recent projects completed by Timber Trails Development Company. Join Julie Howard, Timber Trails’ lead designer, as she walks through the beautiful home while sharing her inspiration and design choices behind each space. Featuring charming pops of pattern and lovely blue hues throughout, it’s truly one-of-a-kind.

To get a closer look at some of our favorite spaces in Varsity Blues, keep scrolling!

Family Room

As Julie explained, our Laura Ashley Wicker Sea Spray tile was the inspiration for the home’s entire color palette. We love the way it ties this family room together as a timeless focal point.

Kitchen

Offering the atmosphere of a whimsical English cottage, this kitchen is both classic and cozy. The rich blue cabinetry makes an eye-catching statement, while the handmade-look Retro Lino backsplash creates balance and adds soft, artisanal character.

Laundry Room

It’s all in the details! Using the Urban Pearl Pav and Urban White Pav tiles, Julie created a custom floor pattern in the laundry room. By placing the tiles in a traditional checkerboard layout, she brought understated elegance to this sweet and simple space.

Find even more custom tile pattern inspiration here.

Mudroom

Laura Ashely Wicker Sea Spray makes its second appearance in Varsity Blues as the home’s mudroom flooring. It offers gorgeous contrast against the warm brown details and crisp white walls.

Primary Bathroom

Featuring our Siberian Pearl marble, the primary bathroom is a true show-stopper. With refined wall paneling, gold hardware, and a boldly painted ceiling, we are swooning over every inch of Julie’s design.

Laid in an elegant herringbone pattern, the Siberian Pearl brushed marble brings an elevated, timeless feel to this space while creating incredible interest and dimension.

We love the Siberian Pearl marble because it has so many natural tones running through it.

-Julie Howard

We can’t forget about this breathtaking shower! Complete with coordinating trim pieces and a striking hex mosaic from the Siberian Pearl collection, its opulence is unmatched.

Jack & Jill Bathroom

As charming as it is functional, the Jack & Jill bathroom maintains a cool-toned palette with the Bulevar Grey tiled shower surround and Meram Blanc Carrara Polished Hex flooring. Soft veining throughout each marble hex plays effortlessly with the gentle waves of texture in the Bulevar Grey, creating just the right amount of movement.

Guest Bathrooms

The perfect place to play with pattern, Julie brought the home’s guest bathrooms to life with two unique, yet complementary designs. The first bathroom features a more sophisticated style with our cement-look Villandry Azure tile on the floor. Pulling out the rich blue tones from the Villandry Azure‘s Victorian-inspired pattern, the Imperial Slate Blue makes for an excellent shower surround.

The second guest bathroom showcases a slightly playful aesthetic with the Blot Noon Hexagon, which imitates the appearance of an inkblot. Similar to the Jack and Jill bathroom, Julie used the Bulevar Grey tile for the shower surround, while adding a luxurious final touch with the Arctic White Brushed Marble Hex on the shower’s floor.

Featuring: Blot Noon Hexagon, Bulevar Grey, Bulevar Grey REL Trim, Arctic White Brushed Hex and Arctic White Brushed. Design by Timber Trails. Photography by Stoffer Photography Interiors.

Get ready to swoon over this gorgeous Miami waterfront mansion designed by one of our amazing partners, Bria Hammel of Bria Hammel Interiors. At nearly 7,500 sq. ft., it boasts massive windows, tropical greenery, and a light-and-airy color palette.

While Miami’s architecture typically leans modern-Mediterranean, the homeowners wanted something a little more traditional, resulting in a stunning blend of the two design styles.

All photography by Spacecrafting.

Kitchen & Dining Room

A host’s dream, the kitchen features crisp white cabinetry, quartz countertops, and antique-style chandeliers. Oh, and we can’t forget the focal point – a stunning black range hood with lavish gold accents.

French doors throughout the home lead to the picturesque backyard, which sits on an aqua-blue canal. Keep scrolling to see the incredible view (and the massive swimming pool)!

Living Room

Lofty ceilings bring an especially grand feel to the living area, with large built-in bookcases and a stunning leather-strapped chandelier.

Vintage decor mixes effortlessly with modern furniture in this space, reflecting a truly elegant, one-of-a-kind design style.

Guest Bathrooms

We love the simple elegance of this guest bathroom. The neutral color palette, gold hardware, and wooden vanity lend themselves to the homeowners’ more traditional style, and we are obsessed!

Featured: Mallorca White.

Mallorca White subway tile brings some artisan charm to the space with a pearlescent sheen and unique texture that creates a handmade look and feel.

We definitely see more of the modern Miami style in this bathroom, with a glamorous marble shower and dark accents. Maintaining a neutral color scheme throughout the space allows for a fun mix of patterns and materials that doesn’t feel overwhelming.

Featuring: Double Chevron with Cinderella Grey, Hampton Carrara Hex Marble Mosaic, Hampton Carrara Polished Marble 4x12in and 12x24in, and Hampton Carrara Polished Durand Marble Trim.

Mallorca White is used once again in this coastal-inspired guest bathroom. A baby blue vanity unites beautifully with silver hardware for a clean and refreshing feel.

Home Office

While the rest of the house features a lighter color palette, the home office goes bold with a deep navy on both the walls and ceiling for a moodier atmosphere.

We’ll take this space for our next Zoom meeting any day!

Powder Bath

Simple and serene, the powder bath includes a customized mirror, wood-carved fluted vanity, and a vintage-style lighting fixture.

Primary Bathroom

Maybe the most striking part of this home is the spa-like primary bath. With Firenze Carrara Honed Marble from top to bottom, it boasts luxury and lavishness.

A custom chandelier hanging above the freestanding tub adds a stunning point of contrast against the otherwise bright and light-filled room.

Sourced from Italy, the marble used throughout the space features stunning grey veining and a honed finish for a look and feel that’s absolutely breathtaking.

We’ll keep this brief as we know you are only here for two things: Sophia Bush and her beautiful California dream home. And let us just say, this house is everything you could want—and then some! If you haven’t already heard, Sophia Bush recently completed the renovation of her mid-century bungalow in Los Angeles, California. She spearheaded this incredible undertaking with the help of her talented friends, Orie Prince (contractor) and Jake Alexander Arnold (interior designer).

Photography by Trevor Tondro. All photography courtesy of Elle Decor.

Kitchen & Living Room

The goal for the kitchen was to design a “really beautiful space for community,” Orie Prince said. From entertaining friends and family to day-to-day use, the 13-foot-long island seamlessly achieves the design team’s intention. Detail after detail, this kitchen has it all.

The interior decor’s large variety of texture and color immaculately replicates the warmth of the outdoors.

Master Bedroom & Bath

From acting to activism, Sophia is what we would call a busy bee. Someone as involved and dedicated as her would most likely want the perfect place for relaxation and rejuvenation. What better place than a master bedroom and bathroom?

Sophia referred to her new master bathroom as “the dream of dreams.” With a space this impressive, she is absolutely right!

We especially can’t get enough of the open, curved shower. Imperial Blush Mosaic beautifully plays off of the bathroom’s warm color palette. The glossy finish adds the perfect shine to help brighten the space.

Home Office

Fun fact: Orie and his team soundproofed the home office so that Sophia could have a space to record her latest podcasts.

Guest Room & Bath

The warm tones from the master bathroom were repeated in the guest bathroom to create the perfect sense of unity. This shower wall is embellished with a dark-hued Imperial Sienna Gloss Mosaic.

Powder Room

If you couldn’t tell by now, Sophia loves color just as much we do. We are mesmerized by this blue powder room. Love the color blue? Check out our blog post that is dedicated to this confident color!

Nestled in the hills of the Carolinas stands Cristin Cooper‘s rustic, refined farmhouse. With Cristin’s eye for design and the help of her husband and general contractor, Zach Cooper, this unstoppable team built their dream home from the ground up. Join us as the Coopers welcome us into their mountain hideaway!

“While we might be great at communicating, we are not always great at agreeing on architecture and decor,” Cristin said. “Zach is from the mountains and loves modern design and rustic elements. I’m from a small town in South Carolina and love all things southern, traditional and cozy.”

Kitchen

As we look through the rest of their mountain home, we think it’s safe to say they did an amazing job at deciding every design detail.

How gorgeous is the Meram Blanc Carrara Marble backsplash? The stone’s white undertones and light-grey veining beautifully unite with the white cabinetry and reclaimed wood accents.

Laura Ashley Laundry Room

The combination of black cabinetry and light-toned tiles creates a stunning contrast in Cristin’s laundry room.

This backsplash is so charming, we just had to include a close-up view! Patterned backsplashes are a great way to add a personalized statement in your home.

Love this look? Check out the rest of our Laura Ashley collection!

Porch Palace

Disclosure: If you get porch envy easily, then you might want to skip this section. From stunning views to charming decor, this space has it all!

“I thought it would be fun to embrace the bohemian trend,” Cristin said. “I decided to mix several patterns of textiles to pair with our simplistic furniture and keep everything neutral and inviting.”

See all of Cristin’s modern-neutral porch decor here.

Mudroom

Before Cristin visited The Tile Shop, she wanted a small, dark slate-looking floor tile for the mudroom. But to her surprise, the in-store inspiration helped Cristin choose a tile that best fit the smaller space.

“The larger sized Nain Negro really helps open up this narrow space. The tile has the look and feel of slate, but it’s actually a durable porcelain tile,” Cristin added.

Featured: Nain Negro

“The in-store tiled displays really helps you gauge different sizes and colors and how it will look in your space,” said Cristin.

Master Bathroom

“The Tile Shop helped me tremendously with this space as we had to decide what patterns and sizes would best complement each other and how much tile we would need for the shower and floor,” Cristin said. “I also learned all about niches in the shower wall, polished edging, Dural systems and all finishing pieces when designing a bath.”

Featured: Hampton Carrara Polished floor tile and Hampton Carrara Polished wall tile

Welcome to Hampton Carrara heaven! From herringbone patterned floors to offset pattern shower walls, this master bath shines with elegance.

Guest Bath

“Our guest room is downstairs in what I lovingly refer to as man land—this is where all of Zach’s favorite rooms are,” Cristin explained. “We wanted the bathroom to be dark, moody and rustic.”

Children’s Bath

While the other bathrooms in the house showcase lavish marble appeal, Cristin wanted a clean, simple and affordable tile design for this last space. Luckily, she didn’t have to sacrifice her style and was able to achieve her goal with the stone-look tile flooring. Calacatta Bianco unites the durability of porcelain with the stunning look of marble.

Earlier this year, we released an exclusive collection of over 200 tiles with one of our favorite designers, Annie Selke. Each tile pushed the boundaries of technology to reinterpret her original textiles and prints. Annie loved the tiles so much, she even remodeled her own home and guest house with them. We are excited to give you an exclusive tour of Annie Selke’s stunning barn house in the Berkshires.

Featured: Chester Silver Versailles. All photography courtesy of Annie Selke.

Country Kitchen

Open-concept floor plans are perfect for creating a warm, welcoming environment. By uniting the living room, kitchen and master bedroom, Annie turned this loft into the perfect guest house!

Notice the stone floors? They’re actually all made out of porcelain! Chester Silver Versailles’s stone look and chiseled edges add stunning, visual interest to every room.

To maintain a cozy look, Annie chose Artisanal White for the kitchen backsplash! The handmade look and crackle finish lend the perfect amount of softness and charm. Take a closer look below.

The Metallic Master

The architectural travertine wall tile behind the head of the bed proves that tile can go beyond the kitchen or bathroom. Harmony Silverleaf Mosaic Travertine adds a perfect wow factor with its three-dimensional design and lustrous silver-leaf finish.

Barn House Bath

Travertine stone’s variety of finishes and styles make is so versatile that Annie coordinated it in both the master bedroom and bathroom!

From the ceramic wall tiles to the travertine floor, neutral colors unite in this master bath.

Claros Silver Tumbled Cobble is an excellent option for this shower floor. Its tumbled finish makes it a natural nonslip textured stone!

What is travertine tile? What makes it so versatile? Check out our resource article for everything travertine.

We can’t be the only ones who are a little jealous of the luxurious tub and bathroom, right? Subtle patterned tiles are a great way to make an appealing and timeless statement. The serene, lattice pattern on the wall is so calming to the eye.

It’s time to take a peek inside the kitchen and master bath of Annie’s home!

What’s Cooking in Annie’s Kitchen?

We can’t resist a bright, airy kitchen! Light tints of white, tan and grey create a perfect color palette for a timeless design.

Love the look of stone but want the durability of porcelain? Well, you’re in luck! Annie utilized Cassettone Grey Mosaic’s distinguished, stone look without sacrificing longevity.

Spectacular Speckled Shower

Sure, you’ve seen bold tile looks before, but no statement compares to the design in this shower! Silverleaf Speckle features mirrored silver splatters on top of a cowhide-look texture. This designer tile truly commands and deserves your attention.

Lavish glamour is matched on the bathroom floor with the rows of DURAL Chrome Gloss Square Edge. The metallic trim pieces light the room for an elevated finish.

The post A Tour of the Victorian Farmhouse appeared first on The Tile Shop Blog.

]]>
Four and a half years ago, Stephanie and her husband Travis, who were expecting their second son, went to look at a big, gorgeous home that was out of their budget. Mysteriously, there were no photographs of the home’s interior on the realtor’s website. When they got there, they understood why. Though the outside was every bit the Victorian beauty they’d seen online, the interior was a complete mess. It hadn’t been updated since the ’60s, and they immediately knew it would be way too much work to even consider. By the time their 20-minute drive home was over, they’d decided to buy it.

The Victorian Farmhouse

The Victorian Farmhouse

The Victorian Farmhouse

Enter the Victorian Farmhouse, a unique over-100-years-old blend of a city-style Victorian and a country farmhouse near Milwaukee, WI. Stephanie and Travis certainly had their work cut out for them. All 13 rooms in the home needed to be completely redone. So, what convinced them that it’d be worth the work? Stephanie’s ability to see past the mess to the hidden original elements showed her that beneath all the musty layers was their forever home. And, four and a half years later, taking that leap of faith has paid off.

Tile was an integral part of this remodel because Stephanie’s choices, especially marble and hexagons, allowed her to honor the age and style of the home with new materials and create the modern farmhouse of her family’s dreams.

House Stats

Year built: 1892

Owned for: 4.5 years

Square feet: 3,000

Bedrooms: 5

Bathrooms: 2

History

Stephanie has put almost as much work into the researching the history of the Victorian Farmhouse as she has designing it. Through Ancestry.com, the historical society and the library, she learned that the original owners were successful dairy farmers William and Elenora Foster (pictured with the home below). The family’s success in farming allowed them to build this Victorian-style home out on their country farm. The house was originally built as a wedding gift by William’s parents, who lived next door, and the family stayed in the home until the 1940s. Stephanie and her husband are only the fourth owners in 127 years. At one point in its history, the house was used as a guesthouse for travelers passing through.

Historic photo of original owners

Stephanie found this amazing photo of her house with its original owners.

Historical Details

The intact historical details of the home were a big selling point for the couple. From the grand staircase down to the intricate doorknobs, there are hidden treasures everywhere. The front parlor is one of their favorite places because of the cozy atmosphere the fireplace and the stained-glass windows create. In the dining room, the original woodwork of the two-toned floor is the standout feature. To complement this original detailing, lots of antique and thrifted items were used. This bench in the entryway, originally used as church or theater seating in the 1920s, was salvaged from a dumpster and perfectly suites the home’s style.

Kitchen

The kitchen shines as an authentic-yet-functional space with its mix of modern conveniences and historical details. Maintaining the character of an 1890s home while bringing a fresh take was the ultimate design goal. Rustic and vintage pieces, like the colorful Depression glass from the 1920s that Stephanie has been collecting for years, add character and a farmhouse feeling. Modern materials, like this marble-look tile and updated appliances, have an updated look that coordinates with the rest of the space.

Laundry Room

Like much of the house, the laundry room also has amazing wooden features. The vintage bench and hexagonal tiles, which Stephanie loves and repeated throughout the house, flatter these features and combine function with style.

Stephanie found this bed (that retails for around $1,000) at Habitat for Humanity Restore for only $65! The style fits perfectly in the master bedroom, which was the servants’ quarters in the original home.

The claw-foot bathtub is another Craigslist find. It was in terrible shape so Stephanie restored it and painted it black. Now, it’s one of her favorite places to relax in the house. Featured: Firenze Carrara Honed 2 in Hex
