]]>As classy as it is cheery, a checkerboard pattern will add some fun and whimsy to your space. And this versatile pattern needn’t be relegated to black-and-white floors. Any square-shaped tile can make a checkerboard, so you can mix colors and patterns to create a winning design. You can even stay neutral like Racheal Jackson of Banyan Bridges did for this grey and white checkerboard backsplash. We love how the handmade look tile adds texture to this kitchen wall, and how she used color to create a dopamine-inducing tableau.
A lot of colors can easily become overwhelming. To keep your room from becoming too busy, try sticking to two to three analogous colors (colors that are close to each other on the color wheel). That’s what Zig and Co. did in this bright and fun entryway. A lot is happening in this room, but there are only three colors–blue, green and yellow–which helps keep the room looking cohesive.
You don’t need to saturate an entire room to showcase your favorite color. A somerset or pencil trim will add a pop of color that can tie into other elements in the room or just provide a point of interest in an otherwise neutral space. This laundry room, designed by At Home With Ashley, uses a single line of pink pencil trim to add color to the marble subway tile design. While Ashley also uses a pink floral wallpaper in this space, a white or neutral colored wall would match the tile just as well.
A black-and-white tile complements virtually any color palette–a great choice if you’re considering dipping your toe into dopamine decor. This vibrant room, designed by Timber Trails, pairs the Firenze Carrara Polished Wheaton with Black marble tile with a hot pink walls. The color saturation is excellent but can be easily altered with a new coat of paint.
Shape is another way to bring joy to a space. This Art Deco-inspired bathroom, designed by Bari J. Ackerman, uses tile to create a glamorous backsplash. The tiled arches mimic the rounded shapes of the mirrors and light fixtures, while the individual hexagon tiles add to the vintage allure of this charming room. You can use tile to create shapes, or choose from a uniquely shaped tile for an unexpected look that will brighten your mood.
A bold pattern is a great way to infuse your space with fun and cheer. If you’re worried about overwhelming the room, use a neutral or solid color on the other surfaces. The Laura Ashley Sunflower Charcoal with Cloud Blue patterned floor tile shown here, pairs well with the Laura Ashley White Beveled wall tile for a space that is bright and fanciful, while still being tasteful. Explore our wide assortment of patterned tile to discover a design that fills you with happiness.
Even the most charming, joy-filled room can use a place to rest your eye. A neutral tile, whether on the floor or the wall can provide some respite in a busy room. The Baltimore Beige Wood Look tile floor in this room designed by At Home With Ashley, adds to the charm of the pretty nature-inspired wallpaper, without distracting. Wood-look tile and luxury vinyl tile are perfect for adding realistic charm to your space while allowing for more creativity throughout the room.
Wondering where to start on your new dopamine decor space? Try making a moodboard! Think of the objects, colors and accessories that give you the most happiness and energy. ]]>Keep scrolling for a closer look at the inspiring spaces in this elegantly chic home!
The fireplace is the focal point of this bright and open living room. The Noir Honed limestone tile with its subtle silver veining creates a stunning harth with lots of visual texture. The dark fireplace against the white wall creates a solid base, which is balanced by the large abstract painting above.
In a house dubbed Chef’s Delight, you know the kitchen is going to be the star. Of course, the delight of this house is that it boasts not one but two kitchens with gorgeous tile choices in both. The primary kitchen features the Antique Mirror Bevel Glass tile above the stove. This reflective tile adds depth and shine to the room and complements the linear forms of the hood.
This second kitchen, or scullery kitchen, features more brilliant design choices. The Noir Honed tile (which we saw earlier on the fireplace) is paired with the Silver Mist honed limestone tile for a sophisticated checkerboard pattern. As Julie explained in the video, the linear veining on this tile creates a pattern within a pattern, but the Silver Mist tile is installed in alternating diagonals to maintain a sense of order and flow.
The Brick x Brick by Alison Victoria Powder blends blue and grey tones for an elegant backsplash that complements both the dark grey walls and grey and black floor tiles. Though the obvious choice for this backsplash might have been to use the same limestone tile as the floor, we’re glad Julie took a risk on this unexpected tile choice. The blue-grey elongated subway tile creates a beautiful transition between the white cabinets and granite countertops.
This gorgeous bar area is perfect for entertaining. The Look Avio handmade-look tile features variations in its blue-green coloring for a natural sense of movement. While handmade tiles often feature uneven edges, these handmade-look tiles have more uniformity, allowing for the neat straight lines accentuated by the white grout. The result is a highly designed look that creates order without being overly homogeneous.
Nothing is more luxurious than marble, and this primary bathroom uses the Firenze Carrara to optimal effect, creating a clean, classic space. The herringbone pattern adds interest in the floor while maintaining the elegance of the room and the marble’s grey veining pairs nicely with the wooden cabinets and intricate, antique rug.
The Firenze Carrara tile extends to the shower walls, creating a lush, luxurious and rejuvenating space.
Don’t you long to linger between loads in this lovely and inviting laundry room? The floral motif of the Elaizig Hex tile adds sophisticated whimsy to this room. We love how the bee prints above the sink tie in both thematically and aesthetically with the floral-inspired patterned tile.
The custom tile design created with the Black and White Quarter Round tile is an unexpected moment that adds character to this charming Jack and Jill bathroom. The simple color palette gives this room depth while allowing the floor tile to claim the focal point of the space.
The Imperial Black Matte Rhombus tile used in this charming kids’ bathroom proves that you can have fun in black and white. The shape is simple, yet playful–perfect for children–but can easily age as kids grow. With the right accessories, this room is suitable for young kids all the way up to teenagers and young adults.
That concludes our tour of the elegantly chic Chef’s Delight. We hope you loved Julie’s design choices as much as we did! If you’re feeling inspired to renovate your own space, be sure to schedule a free design consultation or visit one of our stores. Our helpful tile experts are ready to answer all of your questions, and help you visualize your space!

The subtle variation in glaze and surface texture of this simple square tile creates a modern look with distinct character.

The mason jar hanging light and antique steel faucet complement the tile, and the old-fashioned cutting board and landscape painting complete the modern farmhouse look.
This gorgeous tile backsplash is the epitome of elegance. The tumbled finish on the Meram Blanc Carrara marble tile creates a roughness that, combined with the soft colors, gives this space a warm and inviting feel. Sleek black limestone tile and clean white cabinets create high-contrast drama in this ultra-chic kitchen designed by Timber Trails. The silver veins running through the jet-black Noir Limestone Amalfi create subtle shifts in tone and add to the sophisticated look of this tile. If you love this bright and sleek look, shop our full assortment of white tile.
And now we come to your number one most liked, shared and favorited kitchen of 2023–the Timber Trails’ stunning marble mosaic kitchen. ]]>The Casablanca tile takes center stage in this dramatic black-and-white bathroom designed by Timber Trails. We love how they used the Black Marquina Barnes tile as a frame for this beautifully intricate mosaic. This design could feel disconnected from the bathtub, but the placement of the faucet integrates the tile into the functionality of the space.
Haneen’s Haven used their master bath as a place to display their favorite works of art. The many artistic elements in this room, including the star-shaped overhead light and sculpture, showcase their individual style to create a relaxing atmosphere. The Truewood Beige Wood Look tile floor is a simple, yet stately element that blends well with the museum aesthetic of the room.
By separating the shower into a wet room, I Spy DIY created an amazing tub moment in this beautifully tranquil bathroom. The handmade-look Riad Grey wall tiles have natural shifts in tone, creating interest while maintaining a neutral color palette, adding to the peacefulness of the room.
The glossy finish and beautiful color variation on the Tribeca Grey Whisper tile creates a serene space to relax in at the end of a long day. The choice to tile most of the room, including the tub surround, engulfs this bathroom in a restful atmosphere.
This soothing seaside space exudes a feeling of peaceful relaxation. The soft blue design of the Summerland by Jeffery Alan Marks in Miramar tile is reminiscent of faded linen fabric, adding to the charm and tranquility of this bathroom.
The geometric-patterned Artisan Tiare tile proves you don’t need neutrals to be relaxing. Relegating the tile to the floor keeps this space from becoming too busy. The bold orange with the white walls and ceiling allows for unique accessories like the black and gold overhead light.
Keeping with a blue and white color palette, this bathroom designed with all Laura Ashley tile, creates a fun and relaxing space to unwind at the end of a long day. We love how the Laura Ashley Sunflower Charcoal with Cloud Blue tile extends onto the tub surround, adding depth to the room, and how the Leaf Cloud Blue mosaic tile creates an unexpected shower niche moment.
If you’re lucky enough to have architectural elements in your home like this exposed brick chimney wall, incorporating them into your bathroom design will add to the character and charm of your space. ]]>Want a bathroom that makes a statement? A bathroom that rejuvenates you like a resort spa, one your friends and family can’t help but compliment? A mosaic, whether it covers all four walls or just a shower niche, is sure to impress. Here are some of our favorite show-stopping mosaic tile bathroom design ideas that are sure to spark inspiration for your next addition or remodel.
This mosaic is nature enhanced! The brilliant jewel tones add a touch of glamour to the simple leaf-shaped tile. This tile creates a bold aesthetic when applied to walls and floors, but if you find that a bit overwhelming, try using it for a backsplash, accent wall or shower niche. For lighter, more blueish tones, try Costa Aegean.
One of the great things about mosaics is their versatility. If you like two colorways, you can mix them to create your own pattern like Beginning in the Middle did here with Firenze Carrara and Black Marquina hexagon mosaic. This polka dot pattern is unexpected and chic.
Want to try more custom patterns? Our Imperial collection comes in a wealth of colors, and these hex mosaics are perfect for mixing and matching. This custom hex floral pattern by The Gold Hive makes for an absolutely delightful bathroom floor.
Looking for mosaic tile shower design ideas? The Grey Pebble mosaic creates a relaxing, spa-like experience. The raised pebbles will massage your feet and give you extra traction. The neutral colors create a soothing, calming environment.

Mosaics make for marvelous kitchen backsplashes, accent walls and floors. Add a pop of color, a beautiful black-and-white pattern, or a stunning and luxurious marble mosaic. For more kitchen inspiration, check out these kitchen backsplash ideas.
The grey marble and curved chevrons of the Bardot Grey are the epitome of elegance. The subtle movement of the shapes will instantly elevate any space, whether it’s a kitchen backsplash, shower wall or bathroom vanity.
One thing we love about hexagons is their versatility. Add a touch of whimsy to your room with the Hex Matte White with Black Flower pattern, or create your own–we have a wealth of hexagon tiles in a variety of materials and colors.
A mosaic can add dimension to your space. The multi-colored marbles used for the Victoria Grey Braxtyn make this tile appear as if it’s popping up from the wall. We love how this simple grey and white mosaic pairs with the stainless steel and white elements in this kitchen, but it could also look stunning next to a bold, dark color.
The Sampson Mosaic with its geometric basketweave pattern creates a stunning moment on this kitchen wall. The tumbled marble gives this kitchen an earthy but elegant feel, perfect for an elevated country kitchen design.
These mosaic masterpieces are bar goals! From chic Art Deco arches to fun plays on the classic mirrored bar wall, pull up a stool and raise a glass to these chic and inviting designs.
Art Deco designs are having a moment, and we couldn’t be happier! The Lalique marble mosaic embodies the ornate, geometric design made popular in the flapper era. This tile is especially stunning in the arched space above this bar but can be used anywhere you want to add vintage glamour.
Gem by Alison Victoria lives up to its name–this tile is a gem! The deep-green, scalloped marble features subtle veining for extra movement and allure. This is the perfect tile for a backsplash.
The simple lines of the Skyline Vintage Patina mosaic create great geometric allure. We love how the simple black-and-white pattern, reminiscent of Art Deco style, complements the wood shelving on this accent wall.

]]>Want to make your floor the focal point? A bold geometric pattern is sure to be a show-stopper. Tie it into other design elements in the room through color or pattern, or use white tile or paint on the walls to keep the floor the main feature. Whether you choose bold colors like the encaustic-look Artisan Tiare tile or a black-and-white design, the clean lines of a geometric tile will make your bathroom feel neat and orderly.
Nothing is more luxurious or unique than natural stone, and no stone exudes elegance quite like marble. Most of our marble collections include tile in a variety of sizes and shapes so you can match a square or rectangular tile with a mosaic to create distinction on the floors while still maintaining cohesion in your space. Designer Nikki Chu has done just that in this bathroom covered in floor to ceiling Ashford Cararra. We love how the smaller format hexagon floor tiles provide some relief from the large-format wall tiles. Read A Step Inside: Nikki Chu’s Neutral-Luxe Total Home Reno for more of her design philosophy and inspiring spaces.
Want a bathroom that radiates beach vibes year-round? Our Summeland by Jeffery Alan Marks tiles, inspired by the California Shoreline, will infuse your bathroom with warm and inviting coastal charm.
Tile doesn’t need to stop where the floor ends. If you’re loving your floor tile, take it up the tub or shower wall. The Laura Ashley Sunflower tile on this tub wall is an unexpected detail that adds charm and character to this bathroom. View more spaces featuring tile inspired by the iconic British brand here.
Want to make a small bathroom appear bigger? Large-format tiles require fewer grout lines, making your floor feel more cohesive and your space more expansive. The 24 x 47 in. Aqua Blu tile used in this bathroom designed by Rashida Banks makes this bathroom feel luxuriously spacious.
If you like the look of marble but not the price point, porcelain marble-look tiles, like the Tresana Blanco used in this gorgeous bathroom designed by Brooke Pavel, are a durable and cost-effective alternative that’s sure to dazzle. We have a wide variety of marble-look tiles ranging from crisp white to black. Choose soft, subtle veining or go dramatic with thick, bold hues. Whatever style, marble-look tiles will add a touch of class and elegance to your floor.
Small and neat penny rounds are as classic as they are chic. We have a wide selection of penny rounds, mounted on a mesh backing for easy installation. Choose a pre-made pattern or create your own using the wealth of colors available. The delightful pattern below designed by Timber Trails was created using the Penny Round White Gloss and the Penny Round Cloudy tiles.
If you want to infuse color in your walls, mirrors or fixtures, a simple black and white tile floor pattern will complement rather than detract from the rest of your room. The Cloth Black and White tile used in this bathroom designed by Zig & Co. adds to the whimsical character of the room while allowing the bright colors and fun butterfly-patterned wallpaper to shine.
Mosaics don’t just make for gorgeously intricate floors, the small tile pieces also require more grout lines, which provides more traction on floors prone to wetness. Mosaic tile comes in a wide variety of shapes–from hexagons to basketweaves to petals and more–and comes on a mesh backing for easy installation. Choose a mosaic in a mix of colors, like the Modena tile in this shower designed by Nikki Chu, to add exciting detail to your floor.
If you want to add character to your floors, a checkerboard pattern is a style that is simultaneously sophisticated and fun. The alternating tiles create a dynamic movement that will enliven your floors with energy and playfulness. Whether you use traditional black and white, a muted white and cream or a bold color paired with a pattern, checkerboard tile is a versatile classic that’s always in style.
Have a wallpaper you love for your bathroom? Pair it with a patterned floor tile. When you keep to the same color palette, you can play with patterns and not clash. A lot is going on in this bathroom designed by Zig and Co., but keeping everything in blue, green and white maintains an intentional design scheme.
If bright and bold isn’t your style, don’t be afraid to embrace a neutral color palette. Beige doesn’t have to be boring–a fun shape and subtle pattern can add interest to a floor without becoming overwhelming. We love how the Blot Noon Hexagon tile creates a pattern that’s as appealing as it is calming.
Want the natural look of wood in your bathroom, but are afraid it will be difficult to maintain in a room prone to wetness? Luxury vinyl flooring is an easy-to-maintain, 100% waterproof flooring option that will mimic the look of natural wood and stone. It is also easy to install, making it a great option for a DIY project. We have luxury vinyl flooring in a wide variety of wood and stone styles, so you can get exactly the look you want.
