]]>
If the past year was all about discovering your personal style and designing home interiors that bring you joy, the coming year will see further individualization with more nuanced expressions of the styles we’ve come to love. Some design staples of 2024–such as artisanal, sustainable and organic materials–will continue to be a focus through 2025 and beyond. Read on for 15 new trends you’ll want to make your own for years to come.

1. Hotel-Inspired Interiors

Luxurious, serene and universally appealing, hotel-style interiors make every day feel like a vacation. This five-star shower features the Pisa Oro wall tile matched with the Kasbah Star Bone and Terracotta Cross for a rich and pampering space. Choose luxe marble- or handmade-look tiles in a warm, neutral palette to achieve this look.

2. Celebration of Pattern

Whether graphic and bold, or soft and floral, we predict that patterns will be gracing more walls and floors. Durable and easy to clean, porcelain and ceramic tiles are perfect for showcasing a favorite print–especially in high-traffic or high-mess areas like a kitchen backsplash. Shop our extensive selection of patterned tile to find a design you’ll love.

3. Picket Tile

A new twist on traditional subway tile, picket tile has gained popularity in recent years, and we foresee it continuing to add pointed charm for years to come. Shop our full selection of picket tile to find a style that fits your space.

4. Curves

Sofas aren’t the only traditionally boxy items turning to rounded edges; curved tile has fewer sharp points, creating a softness to your interior design. Scallops, waves and penny rounds–with their soothing silhouettes–will be featured in more spaces. Here, the Gem by Alison Victoria tile shows how the curved edge enlivens a space with gentle movement.

5. A Focus On Artisan Designs

Both interior design and fashion saw a renewed enthusiasm for handcrafted goods in 2024, and we expect this trend toward authenticity and quality to continue into the new year. Crafted, painted and glazed by hand, each Zellige tile adds one-of-a-kind character to your home. This kitchen, designed by Fox Homes and featuring the Zellige White Gloss tile, shows how the slight variations from piece to piece come together to create an elegant space.

This bright and charming kitchen features white Zellige tile backsplash and open white shelves.

6. Eclecticism

Artfully mixed patterns, colors and materials are what make eclectic design so intriguing. This style rewards the bold and unconventional, as seen in the uniquely patterned Big Sur tile from celebrity designer Jeffrey Alan Marks. The abstract layers of glossy blue patina top a cream-colored matte base, giving the appearance of glazed pottery. Shop Big Sur in its two distinct colorways: Sea Spray (green) and Off the Hook (shown).

7. Japandi

A harmonious blend of Japanese and Scandinavian design, Japandi places significance on soothing colors, high-quality materials and a connection with nature. Choose warm neutral colors and wood-look tile (such as the Nidus Decore Mix tile shown here) to create your personal Zen retreat.

8. Brilliant Blue

From bright cobalt to rich navy to vivid sky, blue in all its hues will infuse our interiors with vibrant, serotonin-inducing vibes in 2025. Shop our wide assortment of blue tile–including the Zellige Azul gloss tile shown here–to find the perfect shade for your space.

This bright kitchen features a bold blue Zellige tile.
Featuring: Zellige Azul Gloss.

9. Cozy Patterns

Charming florals are a cornerstone of some of our favorite emerging trends. “English cottage” and the closely related “granny chic” styles use vintage-inspired plays of pattern and color to evoke the cozy feeling of curling up on an overstuffed sofa with a warm cup of tea. The whimsical patterns in our exclusive Laura Ashley collection will help you achieve this timeless trend.

10. Glass and Mirrors

Reflective surfaces will brighten more spaces in 2025. Mirrored glass tiles add warmth and depth to your space, making them a great choice for kitchen backsplashes or entryway walls. Here, the Patina Siren Mirror by Kelli Fontana tile helps to illuminate this stylish kitchen.

Order $3 samples.

11. Textured Walls

The coming year will be about celebrating all five senses, which means adding tactile elements to your home. Fluted tile, like the Violin Decor tile shown here, adds texture to your walls. Install this tile in your bathroom or shower to awaken your senses at the start of the day.

12. Natural Neutrals

The trend toward embracing the shapes, materials and colors of nature will continue into the new year. Warm browns and beiges reflect the outside world and create a serene and soothing atmosphere. Shop our full assortment of brown and beige tiles to create tranquil spaces.

13. All Things Green

Increasingly recognized as a new neutral, green inspires a feeling of connectivity with nature, making it a popular shade for home interiors. Its versatility in pairing with other colors makes it a go-to tone for a variety of styles. Shop our wide selection of green tile and create your own envy-worthy space.

14. Self-Care Spaces

Making time to be your best self is more than just a trend. Prioritize your self-care by creating spaces that promote well-being. Whether it’s an ultra-luxe bathroom like this Nikki Chu-designed room, or a tranquil shower, having a place in your home that relaxes and revitalizes you will help you care for more than just yourself.

15. Natural Stone

Luxurious and unique, natural stone continues to be a popular design choice. In addition to the ever-popular marble, we predict that travertine will grace many spaces in 2025. Here, Arctic White marble is paired with Claros Silver travertine for a beautifully textured shower.

Every tile in our Zellige collection is formed, painted and glazed by hand, including the new petite subway tiles like the Zellige Dirty Blue Gloss tile shown here. The slight variations in size, surface texture and color create a backsplash with completely unique character. Shop our full assortment of Zellige tile, or if you like this look, but want a little more reliability in size and texture, shop handmade-look subway tiles.

7. Herringbone Pattern

Part of subway tile’s appeal is the ability to change the style completely depending on which layout you choose. The herringbone pattern is a classic layout that will give your space a sense of movement as it zigs and zags across your backsplash. Choose a long, skinny subway tile, like the Tribeca Gypsum White tile shown here, to add the illusion of length to your space. For more design ideas, check out this guide to 6 Classic Subway Tile Layouts.

8. Keep It Straight (Stack)

Another favorite layout, the straight stack is neat, orderly and very modern. This chic bathroom features the Coco White glossy handmade-look tile. The subtle variations in size, surface texture and coloring add interest, while the vertical stacks create orderly, gridded lines lend a sense of harmony to this space. We love how this design uses a slightly darker grout with the white tiles to accentuate the tidy lines of this design.

9. Subway Tile Kitchen Backsplash Ideas

If your kitchen backsplash extends behind your stove, you can use your layout design to create distinction between your spaces. This modern kitchen backsplash pairs a classic brick lay tile design with a herringbone design to highlight the cooking space. We love how the herringbone creates movement between the stovetop and range hood, but this layout could also work by mixing a vertical offset with a vertical straight stack or horizontal and vertical stack.

10. White Subway Tile Backsplash Ideas

Classic and classy, white subway tile can make for surprising designs. Whether you choose an unexpected layout design, or stick to a basic brick lay, you can create an unexpected backsplash with your grout and accessories. A contrasting black or grey grout will add drama to your design, and you can add dishes or flowers to enliven your space. This subway tile backsplash designed by At Home With Ashley shows how you can use white subway tile as a reprieve from a more colorful space. You can even switch out your accessories with the seasons or your mood!

This bright and fun kitchen counter features a white subway tile backsplash and colorful accessories.
Featuring: Regent Bianco.

11. Create Contrast

A dark subway tile with a white grout–or vice-versa–will add instant drama to your space. This sleek and chic modern kitchen uses the Noir Honed Amalfi subway tile with a crisp white grout. The white cabinets and counters keep this space from becoming too dark, but we love how this simple black and white color scheme adds character to this room. Shop our wide selection of pro-rated grout to achieve this look.

12. Add Dimension with Beveled Tile

Beveled tile’s raised surface will give your space elegant dimension. Even a white beveled subway tile, like the Imperial Bianco Bevel tile used in this elegant kitchen designed by The Wray Design Co., adds a slight quirky element to your design. Shop the Imperial Bevel tiles in all their color ways to get this effect on your backsplash.

13. Alternate Your Stacks

Don’t be afraid to get creative with your layout. The alternating horizontal and vertical subway stacks used for this chic kitchen backsplash create a unique and unexpected design. The calming grey tones and reflective surface of the Coco Amber Grey Glossy tile adds brightness and interest to this kitchen. While this design accentuates the high wall, this backsplash idea would also add the illusion of height to a more confined space.

Ever since the first conch shell was centered on the wall shelf of a seaside cottage, humans have strived to achieve the perfect beach vibes. While the coastal style has evolved from shells and anchors to cool blues and rope and wooden decor, modern “coastal chic” probably encompasses more than you think. Everything from bright blues to cool greys to warm sandy beige will provide the base for this seaside aesthetic. Whether you’re looking for ideas to spruce up your California coast cabin or your landlocked Wyoming ranch, these ten tile ideas will give your space the laidback, naturally beachy look of your dreams.

1. Abstract Shore-line Patterns

Named for the famous California coastline, the Big Sur tiles–available in Off the Hook (blue) and Sea Spray (green)–are the newest tiles in designer Jeffrey Alan Marks’ West Coast-inspired collection. The vibrant-colored abstract glossy pattern is set atop a cream-colored matte base. While these tiles are meant to mimic the look of glazed pottery, they also invoke a wave washing into a sandy shore. Pair this tile with neutral accessories (like the woven shades on the wall sconces in this stylish, modern bathroom) to highlight the uniquely expressive patterns.

2. Sandy Shades

Capture the warmth of a sunny beach and embrace a neutral color palette, with elegant beige tile. Relaxed sandy shades are the perfect base for your coastal aesthetic and can be accentuated with colorful details, nautical nicknacks or left bare for an elegantly minimalistic look like this calming bathroom. We love how the curved edges of the Wave Old Cream tile embodies both the sandy hue and the relaxing movement of the ocean. Shop our full assortment of beige tile to find the perfect warm-toned backdrop for your space.

3. Bright Sea Tones

Coastal style doesn’t mean you’re limited to pastels. Celebrate the sea of hues that make up the oceans with brilliant turquoise and deep blue. This vibrant kitchen features the Zellige Turquoise Gloss tile. Formed, painted and glazed by hand, this artisanal tile features perfectly imperfect variations in surface texture and tone for a look as beautifully expressive as the sea. If this vivid shade embodies your coastal aesthetic, shop our wide selection of turquoise tile.

4. Sun-Kissed Patterns

The Summerland collection by Jeffrey Alan Marks perfectly encapsulates those easy, breezy, sun-soaked summer days. The faded linen pattern star pattern–available in Rincon, Toro and Miramar (shown here)–mimics the look of soft embroidered fabric. This bathroom demonstrates how to style this tile to achieve an earthy coastal vibe. The neutral Tribeca Gypsum White tile complements the blue-and-white patterned tile and the woven and wooden accessories add to the tactile, organic feel of this space.

5. Cool Cloudy Neutrals

Not every day on the beach is sunny. Embrace the many moods of the sea with cool neutral grey tones. This bathroom features the Verona Gray, an elegant stone-look porcelain wall tile. The natural appearance of the shade variation creates a sense of movement evoking a cloudy sky. On the floor, the Laura Ashley Wicker Dove Grey tile showcases a white blossom star pattern, adding interest to the space. While the white flowers are charming, the coastal appeal of this space could easily be turned up a notch with the inclusion of some woven, wooden or blue accessories. Shop grey tile to find your perfect cloudy neutral vibe.

6. Stunning Stripes

Nothing invokes the nautical aesthetic quite like stripes, but if your aim is coastal chic, not coastal kitsch, elevate your striped pattern with beautiful sand-colored neutrals like this stunning shower designed by Timber Trails. The elegant white San Dona marble tile is complemented by the Legno travertine tile’s soft beige tones. The delicate veining in these stone tiles creates subtle movement that elevates this space and evokes the organic appeal of a sandy shore.

7. Nautical Nods

All hands are on deck in this elegant bathroom designed by West Bay Homes. The Decora Redondo tile features a chic nautical-esque pattern. The crosses and stars in elegant greige invoke the high-seas iconography of a nautical helm, without being overly kitsch. We particularly love how modern this bathroom is with its styled with the decorative blue coral, a stylish twist on classic coastal decor.

8. Pale Blue Accents

Blue is the staple of the coastal chic aesthetic, and when you think coastal hues, the shade you probably conjure is probably a pretty pastel sky blue. For this coastal-inspired living room, Timber Trails began their design with the Laura Ashley Wicker Sea Spray tile as the centering design element. The blue of the fireplace is repeated in the pillows, but the rest of the room remains white, keeping this space elegant, but subdued. Read all about how Timber Trails designed this blue-themed house.

9. Saturated Ocean Blues

If you’re in love with blue, there’s no need to relegate it to your accent pillows. A brightly-hued, saturated blue space fits right in with the coastal chic style book. In fact, why not go all-in with blue in one room, and add dabs in another. This beautiful laundry room designed by West Bay Homes is coastal elegance to the max. While the decorative Decora Ornament Blue tile is giving us more French Mediterranean than Cali-coast vibes, the color palette and minimal, earthy accessories keep this in coastal territory.

10. Warm & Sunny Neutrals

Brighten your space and your day with warm, sunny neutrals. This creamy-toned beverage station features the handmade-look Riad White tile. The undulating surface tone and texture creates movement as the light reflects at different points in the tile, mimicking the look of light reflecting off water. This space is warm and inviting, and if you swapped the floral prints with seaside views, you’d have a perfectly chic coastal space.

Whether you’re looking for ideas to refresh your current kitchen or planning a remodel, these creative tile pairings will help you master one of our favorite trends for 2024–wood cabinets. Read on for patterns, unique shapes and subway tile designs that complement a variety of wood finishes.

1. Backsplash Tile With Oak Cabinets

A neutral light wood is the great base for a fun and funky pattern. The curved pattern of the Elipse Azul tile echos the woodgrain in theses kitchen cabinets for wonderful, mesmerizing movement. The slightly muted dark blue with off-white coloring of this patterned tile complements this light oak wood.

2. Create a Natural Transition

The Tribeca Oatmeal subway tile provides a balanced transition between the white wall cabinets and wood base cabinets in this bright, modern kitchen. The glossy finish on this creamy subway tile adds shine to this kitchen, so that in the right light the wall looks white, but the color variation creates interest.

3. Make it Monochromatic

Beige tiles paired with maple wood create an elegant, monochromatic color scheme as is proof in this beautiful minimalist kitchen. The curves in the Wave Old Cream tile lends softness to this design with its serene neutral palette. We also love how the white grout joints complement the white light fixtures and countertops.

4. Add Depth With Dark Colors

Pair a dark color with a darker wood cabinet for moodier design that gives your kitchen richness. The dark wood base cabinets complement the vibrant color of the Wave Blue Reef tile. This tile might be too dark with wall cabinets, but the open shelving allows for the light to pass through and reflect off the glossy tile.

5. Metallic Patterned Backsplash

A sparkling metallic pattern adds glamour to this ultra-chic kitchen designed by Annie Selke. The reflective pattern of the Annie Selke Goldleaf Speckle tile shines next to the blond wood and white cabinets. The pattern tile creates a visual transition between the wall and base cabinets, by maintaining the neutral color palette.

6. Complement Your Countertops

If you have wood cabinets and granite countertops, then a handmade-look subway tile, like the Annie Selke Artisanal White tile shown here, will add charm to your traditional kitchen aesthetic. The uneven surface edges add detail to this design that complement the dark wood of the cabinets and brown granite.

7. Groove-y Design

Grooved 3D tile complements the woodgrain in stained wood cabinets. The raised line design on the 4-D Diagonal White tile adds a uniformed movement to a space that is already alive with the movement. The geometry of the tile contrasts the organic flow of the woodgrain for a balance of the natural and engineered.

8. Neutral Backsplash Tile With Dark Wood Cabinets

If your cabinets are dark, a light, cool neutral will help balance the tone of your kitchen. The soft shade of the Neo Hex Gloss Blue-Grey tile provides a lightness to the heaviness of the cabinets, and the glossy finish reflects the light, brightening the prep space. The elongated hexagon tile creates a sleek pattern that adds interest to the minimalist wooden cabinets.

9. Add Drama With Contrasting Grout

A black tile with white grout or a white tile with black grout–like the Imperial Brite White tile shown here–will add a subtle sense of drama to your space. Perfect for creating interest to a minimalist wood cabinet design. We love how the black grout complements the black range hood, shelf and handles in this modern kitchen.

10. Be Authentic With Handmade Zellige Tile

Crafted by hand, Moroccan Zellige tile is truly one of a kind. The subtle variations in size, shape, glaze and color will give your backsplash character that pairs perfectly with the unique look of natural wood. This kitchen designed by Fox Homes uses the Zellige White Gloss tile. The effect is a crisp, clean and creative aesthetic.

11. Embrace a Folksy Pattern

This kitchen designed by Kyndred embodies everything we love about modern farmhouse style–wooden cabinets, open shelving and the folk-art-inspired Star Blue tile stove backsplash. The handmade-look details of this tile add charm to this patterned tile and complement the stained wood cabinetry. For more ideas on how to incorporate this aesthetic in your space, read our Tile For Every Style: Modern Farmhouse, style guide.

12. Keep It Crisp and Clean With White Tile

From blond to dark wood, you can’t go wrong with crisp and clean white tile pairing. We love how this kitchen designed by Molly Howe Design uses the Hex Matte White tile to create a wonderfully textured white backsplash. The white range hood and countertops add to the crispness of this design.

13. Celebrate Your Style With an Art Deco Mosaic

The beauty of wood cabinets is that they will complement a range of styles, so your tile choice may determine whether your look is midcentury modern or modern farmhouse or coastal. The gorgeous flapper-era design of the Skyline with Gold stone mosaic tile transforms this modern kitchen design with the sunning gilded geometrical shapes of art deco.

This picture frame designed by Sutherland Home features the Ancient Cordoba tile with its intricate and ornate design that elevates the simple kitchen. As our Zellige collection is expanding, we’re taking a moment to explain the unique qualities of these authentically handcrafted tiles, and how you can use them to enhance your tile design. Read on to learn about the history and making of these handmade Moroccan tiles and shop our four new colorways: Azul, Dirty Blue, Shamrock and Turquoise.

A gif of a kitchen backsplash featuring four Zellige colors: Azul, Dirty Blue, Shamrock and Turquoise.
Featuring: Zellige Azul Gloss, Zellige Dirty Blue Gloss, Zellige Shamrock Gloss and Zellige Turquoise Gloss.

What are Zellige Tiles?

Carefully crafted by skilled artisans in Morocco, every piece in the Zellige collection embodies true organic beauty with striking variations in color and surface texture. Adhering to traditional processes of hand-molding, hand-cutting and hand-glazing, each tile showcases one-of-a-kind character.

History of Zellige Tiles

Thought to be influenced by Byzantine mosaics, handcrafted Zellige tiles originated in North Africa in the tenth century. The process of molding, hand chiseling and glazing the tiles has changed little in the last seven centuries.

How Zellige Tiles Are Made

The key to making Zellige tiles is high-quality clay. All of our authentic Zellige tiles are made using clay from the northeastern Moroccan city of Fez. The clay is mixed with water and sent through a filtering machine to remove any impurities. Newly cleaned, the clay is moved to pools for three days for water to filter through and then left out to dry for another three days.

Once it is ready, the clay is placed in brick-shaped molds for three to six days resulting in rock-clay bricks that are passed through rollers to thin and smooth them. The clay bricks are then cut with molds to achieve the final shape. Only then is the clay fired in the kiln for 12 hours at 900 degrees celsius. After the clay has been fired, it is hand chiseled by a skilled artisan to achieve an angled edge for easier installation. They are then hand-painted and glazed and placed in holding racks to dry.

This bright and charming kitchen features white Zellige tile backsplash and open white shelves.

Designing with Zellige Tiles

Zellige tiles are ceramic and can be used on walls, floors and in wet areas. The hand-chiseling and hand-glazing process will result in tiles that are uneven and vary in surface color and surface texture. Embrace these imperfections! It is the tile’s one-of-a-kind quality that makes Zellige tile authentically luxurious.

Our Zellige collection tiles are available in a variety of shapes, including: square, petite subway, mosaic and cross and star. The bathroom below displays the variation in tone among a single colorway (Alabaster) and how glossy and matte Star and Cross tiles can be installed together for added interest.

Ready to embrace these perfectly imperfect tiles? Shop our Zellige Collection to find tile to fit your style. For even more inspiration and information, set up a free design consultation to get advice from our tile experts.
