]]>The intricate white-on-black pattern of the Bolshoi Negro tile makes this cozy fireplace a statement piece. Although the pattern is detailed, the simple color palette maintains the understated elegance of the room–and it looks stunning with the minimalist hardwood mantel.
Handcrafted details are a hallmark of modern farmhouse style. Handmade or handmade-look tiles, like the Look Oliva tile shown here, feature variations in color and surface texture that give your space perfectly imperfect appeal. As an added detail, we love how the white grout lines pop against the deep green tiles, creating continuity between the fireplace and the white cabinetry.
Lean into the earthen aspect of modern farmhouse design with natural stone, like the Claros Silver Split Face Free Length tile shown here. The rough edges of this tile adds texture, while the beige and grey tones create a cozy cabin feel. Shop our wide assortment of travertine tile for more rich and rustic looks.
A cornerstone of modern farmhouse design is updating traditional styles for a contemporary home. Embrace the designs of the past with a folk art-inspired print, like the Americana-patterned Star Blue tile shown here. The matching blue bricks make this fireplace a classy and cheerful focal point.
One of the things we love about modern farmhouse design is its flexibility. You can combine different styles and still achieve a cozy-chic aesthetic. This fireplace, designed by @kstalzer85, combines the “English cottage” style Laura Ashley Wicker Charcoal patterned tile with a hardwood mantel and a bronze cow scull for a rustically stylish appeal.
Paired with a wooden mantel and homey decor items, white marble tile elevates your design while maintaining a down-to-earth aesthetic. Here, @lexi.pratz styled her Hampton Carrara marble fireplace with natural elements–hardwoods, white pumpkins and fall florals–to create a space that is both elegant and inviting.
The California Gold Large slate tile adds a textured edge to this modern farmhouse fireplace, designed by Pinnacle Design and Remodeling. The architectural details and dark tones complement the crisp, painted wood panels above the mantel. (Plus, the muted color palette makes the Christmas decor pop!)
Simple and timeless, a brick-lay subway tile design is a staple of modern farmhouse style. Here, @pipermathews adorns her fireplace surround with the Africa Tempesta white marble tile. The grey-veined white tile adds great visual texture to the space, complementing both the wooden mirror and metal candlesticks.
This cozy space features the Laura Ashley Mr Jones Dove Grey tile with its sun-faded pattern, creating a relaxed yet elevated aesthetic. The combination of the geometric floral design with the organic evergreen and wooden accessories provides a stimulating contrast to this space, designed by @pipermathews.
When you think of tile for a fireplace, you probably picture it on the hearth or fireplace surround. Tiling above the mantel adds focus to upper portion of your room, accentuating the height of the walls and making an artistic statement. That’s what @this_flippin_house has done in for this beautiful fireplace, featuring the Star tile.

]]>As Julie explained, our Laura Ashley Wicker Sea Spray tile was the inspiration for the home’s entire color palette. We love the way it ties this family room together as a timeless focal point.
Offering the atmosphere of a whimsical English cottage, this kitchen is both classic and cozy. The rich blue cabinetry makes an eye-catching statement, while the handmade-look Retro Lino backsplash creates balance and adds soft, artisanal character.
It’s all in the details! By placing white and grey square tiles in a traditional checkerboard layout, Julie brought understated elegance to this sweet and simple space.

Laura Ashely Wicker Sea Spray makes its second appearance in Varsity Blues as the home’s mudroom flooring. It offers gorgeous contrast against the warm brown details and crisp white walls.
Featuring our Siberian Pearl marble, the primary bathroom is a true show-stopper. With refined wall paneling, gold hardware, and a boldly painted ceiling, we are swooning over every inch of Julie’s design.
Laid in an elegant herringbone pattern, the Siberian Pearl brushed marble brings an elevated, timeless feel to this space while creating incredible interest and dimension.
We love the Siberian Pearl marble because it has so many natural tones running through it.

We can’t forget about this breathtaking shower! Complete with coordinating trim pieces and a striking hex mosaic from the Siberian Pearl collection, its opulence is unmatched.
As charming as it is functional, the Jack & Jill bathroom maintains a cool-toned palette with the Bulevard Whisper Gray tiled shower surround and Meram Blanc Carrara Polished Hex flooring. Soft veining throughout each marble hex plays effortlessly with the gentle waves of texture in the Bulevard Whisper Gray tile, creating just the right amount of movement.
The perfect place to play with pattern, Julie brought the home’s guest bathrooms to life with two unique, yet complementary designs. The first bathroom features a more sophisticated style with a cement-look tile floor. Pulling out the rich blue tones from the tile’s Victorian-inspired pattern, the slate blue subway tile makes for an excellent shower surround.
The second guest bathroom showcases a slightly playful aesthetic with the patterned hexagon, which imitates the appearance of an inkblot. Similar to the Jack and Jill bathroom, Julie used the Bulevard Whisper Gray tile for the shower surround, while adding a luxurious final touch with the Arctic White Brushed Marble Hex on the shower’s floor.

]]>The saying “What’s old is new again” doesn’t ring truer than in the home design industry. Now more than ever, designers and homeowners are seeking out ways to bring a sense of character and individuality into their spaces. For the same reason reclaimed wood, antique furnishings and upcycled thrift store finds have seen a resurgence in recent years, so has the popularity of handmade tile. Unlike the classically crisp and clean nature of the medium, tile crafted by hand features delicate imperfections and organic beauty that makes each piece one of a kind.
Thanks to recent advancements in tile technology, it’s now easier than ever to mimic the nuanced look and feel of handmade tile in more durable and maintenance-friendly materials. We’re diving into all things handmade-look tile and showing you some of our favorite spaces featuring it below!
One of the most notable features of handmade and handmade-look tile is its beautiful color variation. While a typical tile tends to display the same consistent, even-colored body throughout, a handmade option will often showcase its layers of richness with a number of varying shades. Our handmade-look Riad Sand tiles are a stunning example of this variation – while each piece of ceramic is from the same batch, their creamy tan tones deviate from tile to tile, creating a slight patchwork effect.
Due to the natural pooling of glazes during the making of handmade tiles, they feature gentle waves of texture that create an enticing sensorial experience. These same textured grooves can also be seen and felt in handmade-look tiles, designed intentionally to closely mimic authentic handcrafted elements. With this subtle, one-of-a-kind dimension in each tile, walls and floors come alive with beautiful movement.
With a rainbow of color options from soft and subtle to bright and bold, our handmade-look tiles can easily be incorporated into any design style, allowing personality to shine. Warm- and cool-toned whites, greys, and tans create the perfect neutral backdrop for a space, while vibrant colors like rich sage greens, ocean blues, and bold lavenders offer a more striking focal point.

Bring a whimsical touch to the everyday subway tile with a handmade-look option. While it still offers a classic overall design, the handmade elements bring a soft charm to the typically sleek and uniform style. For a more contemporary style, try our handmade-look options offered in pickets, squares, hexagons and more.

As with any tile, the finish makes all the difference when it comes to overall appearance. For a more organic look and feel, a matte finish—like that featured in our Color Market tiles—is the perfect option. To get a slightly smoother and shinier style, a gloss finish will reflect light beautifully while highlighting the tile’s unique surface texture, as can be seen in the Splendours collection. Offering a striking touch of glamour is the pearlescent finish displayed in the Mallorca tiles – glistening in the light, its luster is unmatched.
